Thanks Tom. I just clicked quote (not "reply") and am now typing right underneath the box in your post that has my quote inside it, so let's see if this works. I previously was expecting an entire new box to type in so hope this works?
Hooray. It seems to have worked although it still seems somewhat unorthodox to my befuddled brain Thanks again.
You didn't say what your exact motions were, so I am uncertain how you got the message you reported. However, here is how I created this post:
I was just reading your post and clicked the Quote button on the top right of your message. An edit window with the quote inside a box opened up. I clicked below it and then just started typing this response.
Try it yourself now. Don't click reply or anything else, just the Quote button. You should see this entire post in an edit window. To abandon it if you wish, click the back button in your browser, or in the breadcrumb list right below the main menu click "Need help on Forum posts" to take you back to the top of the thread.
Let me know if it worked for you.

I am going to say this about the "quote" business, because I see this mistake many times. When you quote a post, it opens in the make a post editor thingie with the quoted post surrounded by an outline --- so far so good. Now, --- this is the fault of how the site handles it --- that outline is right against the bottom of the typing box/area and it is like pulling eye teeth to add your text below the outline so that it is not included within the quote outline. Many people simply add their text within the quote outline, as that is about all you can do. To avoid this problem and have some room to work, select the BBCode option.

That helps a bit.

I just created a new FAQ about how to Quote a Post. If you have any questions about it, if I was not quite clear, I would appreciate hearing about it!
