Hello all.
I want to move the letter of the word closer together.
Cannot seem to figure it out as most of the tutorials on the web are for the full Photoshop.
I wanted to attach the actual PSD file but don't think I am allowed to.
Any help would be appreciated.

One way to do this is to split the word up into parts. Let's say you wanted to move the "i" in "driven". Type the "dr", then the "i", then the "ven", then move the parts around to your liking. When satisifed you can link the three layers so they will move together.

Here's how to do whole words/sentences.
Elements doesn't allow kerning, which is the technical term for spacing between letters, but there's a workaround.
First go to Edit>Preferences>Type and make sure the box that says 'Show Asian Text Options' is checked. Once you've done that you will see a little Asian squiggle icon in the top toolbar on the right, next to the warp text options etc. If you now type something, then highlight your type & click on the little icon you'll see a drop down box that gives you the option to change percentages - try one of these and you will see your text move closer together depending on how high a percentage you choose.
One thing to remember is to change the percentage back to zero before you uncheck the 'Show Asian Text Options' box otherwise your text will remain squished together next time you type!

Thank you Bayla.
That worked very well.
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you choose "Tate-Chuu-Yoko" from the little Asian-character-icon. Your text will then be left-to-right instead of top-to-bottom.
Thanx again.

Michel.
Thanks for that explanation about the difference between kerning & tracking. And thanks for pointing out that you can adjust tracking in Elements+ - I still haven't properly explored all the things that this little gem of a program can do!

MM,
I learnt that from a Dave Cross tutorial years ago! I'm sitting at my computer desk trying to remember why on earth I sat down here, but that tutorial - never forgotten it for some reason!

Thanks for the explanation of the dfference between kerning and tracking. It makes sense that those two things are different, but I never gave it that much thought, although I've used the 'asian text options' many times. I guess, when I realized I couldn't adjust individual letters, I just went with the whole word option and never gave it another thought. On a side note - my dad hand set type for a small book company - bet he'd know the difference.

Bayla Ha! Yes, It's the same here too! Remember things from way back as if thay happened just yesterday but trying to remember what, when, or even 'if', I had lunch today? Well, that is another issue. J PS Did you remember why you sat at your computer desk, eventually? Hope so!
