I am thinking of buying a Go Pro 9, and was wondering if anyone on the forum has experience with one of these and could help with my decision. My rich wealthy tycoon sister gave us a GoPro 5 (I think??) Silver (believe it or not, the difference between Silver and Black is a whole lot more than just the color) She also gave us a whole big bag of accessories; believe me, you will need accessories, plenty of accessories; I found some generic accessory kits on Amazon for poor people's prices and I cannot see a speck of difference in quality between the very pricey GoPro branded ones that my sister gave us. I even got a flash-shoe adapter and tiny ball-head that allows the GoPro to be mounted on top of our DSLR cameras; armed thus, we can shoot video and stills at the same time --- plus, having a GoPro mounted atop a Canon DSLR makes you look really COOOLLL ! Ours came with three outer cases; one is waterproof down to submarine depth. We did learn that video sound is almost absent when the waterproof case is on; the wife did not know this and took several videos of some kids and you cannot hear what they are saying. The story is different when the correct outer case is on; I was videoing a groundhog that helps my horse eat his feed; and, when I poured the horse feed into the trough, it sounded like a Michigan Loader dumping #5 rock into an aluminum dump-truck bed. They are really neat and really cool and you can do all sorts of things with them and mount them in places you would not want your real camera mounted, like on the dog or on the kid as they go down the waterslide or have a bike wreck. I have seen video from where one was mounted onto the driving rod of a steam locomotive. I can't; but, my wife can completely control ours using her phone --- even from a longgggg ways away. Just don't expect DSLR quality from the stills and video; they really distort the edges of the picture, kind of like a fisheye lens; the closer you are to the subject, the less noticeable this is. You will want a sack full of spare batteries and a multi-battery charger w/lighter plug and a handful of memory cards, micro or mini or somesuch. Our #5 is loaded with features; I can't imagine how many more features version 9 is going to have. There are other brands available now for a lot less money; they may be worth looking into.

Thank you BuckSkin for your very entertaining reply! I know about the range of accessories, so many and I really wonder about the need for a lot of them, and they are not cheap either!! The Go Pro 9 is waterproof without a special case up to a certain depth, as for going down as far as a submarine....not currently in my list of wants. They are now voice activated too, which could be very handy when wanting to change from video to stills. If we are ever allowed to leave home again in the future, I thought it would be an easy way to document our travels etc, maybe Santa will come to the party this year if I'm good.... I've watched a couple of youtube videos and they look easy enough to use, though the batteries don't seem to last very long, so yes chargers and spares will definitely be on my list. Thanks again, appreciate you sharing your experiences and advice.
