I am finding that when I am reading posts that my screen is jumping to the bottom where there is an ad flashing. This is really annoying as I can't read through more than six lines of a thread before my computer "jumps" to the bottom of the whole thread to that ad.
How can I turn this off?
p.s. ....I don't mind ads appearing if they help to support this site, but I do mind them taking over my screen......

Pat,
I am not sure what is going on. I don't experience what you are describing re the ads and the screen jumping to the bottom where the ad is. I can scroll through a thread (even a very long one) without any problems.
If you want to block ads on a website, you could try Adblock Plus.

I have experienced the same thing on several occasions.
What I notice most is, for my computer anyway, all of the ads are very slow to load; the site will almost immediately show on the screen, but I cannot scroll down or do anything else, until all of the ads have finished loading.
If I move the scroll wheel before I let the ads finish loading, when the ads do finish loading the screen will then zip to the bottom.
This scenario is the same for every time I go to another page/location on the site; even though the site contents appears almost immediately, I just have to be very patient and give all the ads time to finish loading.

I've certainly never been particularly aware of the ads. I know they're there but they're not intrusive. It may have something to do with your internet speed. Mine is, allegedly, Superfast Broadband, and is actually 17 mbps so that may explain why they're not interfering with my enjoyment of this site.

My internet speed is only 10 Mbps. I have no problems with the ads; they do not interfere with my reading of the threads.

For whatever it is worth, we have whatever satellite service that came with our DISH TV package. I have no idea what our internet speed is; I know it is a lot faster some times than others. Do you all have some kind of speed measuring device; how do you know what your speed is ? Thanks.

Internet speed is not a problem and my computer is a fairly new gamer's machine so it is speedy! This just started happening today - I've never noticed it before.

I am sorry but I cannot replicate what you describe. I have been checking different threads; there has been no jumping to the ad at the bottom. I wonder if it is a problem with your browser. Can you check accessing this site with a different browser?

I am very sorry to hear that is happening to you, but I am very confident is has nothing to do with this forum software (not very helpful, I know.) sounds like some malware.

I have no problems on this web site. Pages load really quickly and the ads are not intrusive or disruptive. But my pc has a reasonable amount of grunt with a very fast broadband Internet connection. If your Internet experience is slow, then it's probably a combination of a slow Internet connection (satellite is very slow in my experience), perhaps not enough RAM (you can't have too much RAM ) and/or a slowish CPU.

Pat, from what you said, I believe you can eliminate these two variables -- slow Internet connection and slow computer. I am inclined to go along with Tom's suggestion.

Not a dumb question at all. Good thinking! If you click on this arrow (the "elevator" arrow), you will be taken quickly to the top or the bottom of the page.
This may explain what Pat is experiencing.
