This is what we do when I am not taking pictures or gone in a big truck. But, from the looks of things, this fun is over for a while. John Deere 5820 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester --- We call it a Silage Chopper -- and, when it is working, it is one corn eating monster.  |

Here is the machine in action when things are working as they should. I didn't notice when I snapped the picture; but, in the first photo, the operator's view is blocked by the piled up silage and he is missing the truck and blowing silage on the ground. In this corn, which has had a healthy dose of Ammonia-Nitrate, five minutes will fill a truck; notice that the corn is taller than the truck and chopper. Neat pix. Corn is also chopped for silage here, but it is never that tall!

I bet they would let you drive one of the trucks or operate the chopper or ride along if you asked; it definitely is interesting and can get exciting at times. I just wish I had started carrying a camera many years ago; there is so much that I could have documented that is in the past and will never be seen. |
