We discussed bears a couple of days ago and BuckSkin was concerned that I'd get et. We survived. Note from my Facebook page: On Monday, September 27, Willie and I drove to Waterton Lakes National Park to look for bears and were not disappointed. Within about 5 minutes of driving up Redrock Parkway (thanks to others who had pulled over) we saw six bears. In a small area, there were two families of black bears: two sows with two cubs each. One family were almost black, black bears and the others were mid- to light-brown black bears. We were surprised the two families were feeding so close to each other. The entire time, all of the bears went about their bear business as if we were not even there. Anyway, we did indeed survive this wonderful adventure. So many times (when we've been skunked), we've heard "You shoulda been here yesterday." Well yesterday was our day. We feel most lucky, but have paid our dues many times. These are mix of dark black bears and lighter brown black bears.

So glad your trip paid off, Clive. Fantastic captures! Like the way the yellow leaves work with the bears coloring. It seems this one needs a caption.......perhaps a suggestion for our witty members.

You’ve outdone yourself Clive, they don’t look scary at all! I agree that these are some of your best photos and I love that light coloured furry one the most.

Thank you all. It was a good day and I am happy with my photos and pleased with how my gear performed. There were two other toggers next to me, one who I "know" but never had met before and she wrote to me about my photos as she is not so pleased with her pictures. It seems this one needs a caption It's on the tip of my tongue Helen as I "know" the caption ... but it won't come to me. Will think about it. Willie and I have been going to Waterton to watch bears almost every fall for about 12 years..she loves bear spotting and is good at it. Yesterday, she used binoculars and was able to see them all very well. Sometimes we see no bears ... sometimes one or two at a distance or in bush. In ca 2010 we had a close encounter that was good. Hands down, this was our best bear encounter. These bears are in a park and comfortable with seeing people. But they are still wild and can roam around freely and leave the park should they choose. There are a lot of black and grizzly bears in SW Alberta, although I have no seen a griz for decades. Thank you all. Clive

My caption asks, 'Is this my best side and what is that sitting on the top of my head?' Whenever a guy gets that look from a strange full-of-themselves female, it's "Who do you think you are looking at" The guy doesn't necessarily have to be actually looking to get the return look and response.
