Starting from the South, this is the first of three Barren River Lake crossings on US Hwy 31E. Of the three, this one is the only actual Barren River crossing; the other two are un-named tributaries. This view is looking East/Upstream. One thing Kentucky is blessed with is plenty of buzzards; I believe we have more buzzards per capita than anywhere else on earth. Starting from the South, this is the second/center of three Barren River Lake crossings on US Hwy 31E. This one is an un-named tributary that the lake has backed up in. This view is looking East/Upstream. Buzzards are good for cleaning up roadkill, is that right?

Buzzards are good for cleaning up roadkill, is that right? and going through windshields when they stay and dine too long. I have heard several instances where they have ended up on the seat with the driver and often with plenty enough life left in them to put up quite a fuss. In the last twenty or so years, we have had a new, larger, more aggressive, breed of buzzard move in that doesn't limit themselves to the already dead; these will kill young calves.

these will kill young calves. Wow - those are some amazing buzzards - if they have it in them to kill something that large The guys we have around here don't bother with anything but dead stuff which has had time to 'ripen' in the FL sun. The more rotten, the tastier, I guess. I watched them feast on an Armadillo - but they didn't have the brains to flip it over to get to the tasty belly. Instead, they pecked a hole in the shell. I am always amazed when I see them. They are huge and so interesting and without them, we'd have some pretty dirty streets. My favorite buzzard photo From 2006 - grabbed from an old layout - lookout - he's watching youSee I told you they were cute I'm not sure we have these types of buzzards around here - photo was taken in the Milwaukee Zoo. I tried to reduce the size of this photo using 'save for web' but was unsuccessful

Left is North to Glasgow Right is South to Scottsville Seeing these Scottish names sent me to Google where I found this person's blog post interesting. That is a most interesting blog and group of pictures; thanks. The Glasgow, Kentucky, that I speak of actually has a Scottish Highlanders week-long event every year. My wife job takes her all over and she commented the other day that she is seeing more and more men wearing Kilts and she hasn't been close to Glasgow in ages, so it has to be somewhere else that she is seeing these kilt-clad people. I will stick to my cowboy-cut Wranglers.
