Inspired by Tom's CE 102 Challenge but then got side tracked by trying "this & that". Anyway this is where I finally ended.

I went back to CEC 43 - Van Gogh Effect, but used the Lighter Color blend mode this time. I also extracted the background and applied an effect to it.

We really have an exceptional forum here, don't we?!. It is impossible to overstate the value of being able to get timely and expert answers to questions about Photoshop Elements. For extending my skills though, the tutorials offered in the Creative Effects Challenges have taught me most of what I know about using Photoshop Elements.
In the meantime, the challenge this time is to pick one (or more!) of the past Creative Effects Challenges and give it another try, or find a past challenge that you didn't get to the first time around, and post your results in this thread. Here is the complete list of the Creative Effects Challenges for you to choose from. You *will* be amazed by the many wonderful tutorials in our collection! I look forward to seeing your creations! Again, I must congratulate you for bringing the challenges out of mothballs. I have actually come across some which I tried. And am really pleased with myself. Perhaps now, I shall be able to get myself out of the reverse gear which I have been stuck in.

CE #14 Painterly sketch.....Followed the tut but used a preset brush by Julie Meade. I love these brushes....they were offered free at one of her Creative Live Scrapbooking events. I would have liked to link to them but I can't find them

Well-done execution of both techniques Jim! I have been playing with the chalk effect but haven’t hit on the right subject yet.

Well-done execution of both techniques Jim! I have been playing with the chalk effect but haven’t hit on the right subject yet. It took me an awfully long time to come up with something that I figured would work with the chalk effect! Also, I believe you used that quote in the text-wrap challenge.
