Chris and caspa Thank you for your previous input in this other thread. Perhaps you technical types will enlighten me about the weirdest of things. Never seen anything like this—and it started with the new 4K monitor. It actually causes no problems and I came across it by “accident.” (I had manually cropped an image and the rectangular marquee tool dancing ants were still surrounding the cropped image when I enlarged it.) When an image has been selected (i.e., <ctrl><a>) [or cropped] and surrounded by dancing ants and then increased in size (usually) past 100%, then strange, pulsing aberrations appear. They throb harmonically, pulsing on and off. They tend to be angular masses but have seen wavy lines as well. But ONLY when the image is surrounded by dancing ants, so it is not a problem if enlarging for (say) surgical cloning. If an images is quite small, the image might have to be increased in size to 300% before this phenomenon appears. However, on a full-sized image (i.e., 6,000 by 4,000 pixels) the pulsing aberrations will appear at 100%, but again only when the image has dancing ants around it (i.e., <ctrl><a>) Any thoughts? Thanks, Clive PS: I tried capturing a screen video of this (<Win><alt><r>), but when I do, it only records the PSE layout and not the actual pulsing-aberration image.

Could it possibly be the feathering of the selection ?
If your selections have a feathering amount, change that to zero and see if what you are seeing goes away.

Could it possibly be the feathering of the selection ? Thanks. No feathering. It sure is odd. It has no effect on my work ... just odd.

Lo and behold! I get the same strange, pulsating lines when the Rectangular Marquee tool is activated, marching ants around the image, zooming-in over 100%.I used PSE 2021 (the same version you have). Then, to leave no stones unturned, I tested PSE 11 through PSE 2020 and PSE 2022. This phenomenon occurs only in PSE 2021. I paid a visit to Adobe Support Community and found this report. Chris and caspa Thank you for your previous input. Perhaps you technical types will enlighten me about the weirdest of things. ... Unfortunately I can't help with this issue since it appears to occur only in PSE 2021 and I am using PSE 2020. Hopefully you will find a solution.

Surprisingly it is an easy out by deselecting the crop or captured area. But sure is odd. Try disabling "use graphics processor for adjusting facial features" in PSE preferences, then close and open PSE and see if that makes a difference. It's worth a try. Thanks for the tip. Alas, it did not change anything. (I changed, closed and re-opened.) Thanks, Clive

Oh wow! Thanks Sepiana! Your observation assures me that it is not my specific (new) monitor. Clive, rest assured! It’s not your new 4K monitor. Here is more evidence that PSE 2021 is the culprit. I did more troubleshooting. This time I used a monitor with the resolution of 2736 x 1824. The results were the same as the ones reported in my earlier post.I also have a 4K monitor. I get the same strange, pulsating lines when the Rectangular Marquee tool is activated, marching ants around the image, zooming-in over 100%.I used PSE 2021 (the same version you have). Chapter II The phantom lines appeared as an outline of an image I had previously captured with the "Auto selection" wand.

Thanks for posting Charles. Does it go away if you minimise the window and maximise it again? (a bit like refreshing the screen). You could try posting this issue on the PSE Adobe forum.
Kind regards Chris

Chris It only appears when the image has been captured <ctrl><a> and there are dancing ants around the image. And apparently only in PSE 2021.
