I did some editing with the Clone Stamp tool, using the left and right brackets to change the size, so I was seeing a circle that changed in size, like usual. After doing a photo or two the circle switched to a cross hairs type of thing and didn't appear to change in size, although I finally figured out that if I applied it it had changed in size. I saved the picture I was editing and then the circle reappeared. Anyone have an idea what happened? Oh yeah, Elements 10 on Windows. (and is anyone here yet? Seems kind of quiet)

You toggle between the crosshair cursor and the circular cursor by pressing the caps lock. It sometimes happens that I will unknowingly tap the caps lock and the cursor seems to change without reason. Just tap it again the get back the regular cursor. Let us know if that fixes your problem or not. Yes, it will probably be quiet around here until the Elements Village closes. I expect most of the users will not move over here until then.

Yes, that did it, thanks. My fat typing fingers must have hit the caps lock when I did the save. What an odd thing to have embedded in Elements. Well, odd to me anyway....

This has happened to all of us at one time or another. I found out what I did wrong by asking a question on the forum! Everyone is so happy to answer questions about any little thing that bugs you. I don't think it is an Elements oddity.... more like an Adobe 'feature' since it happens in PhotoShop as well.

And you are correct -- this is not a bug; it is by design. Many Elements tools give you the option of a precise cursor (the little crosshairs). Pressing this key enables you to toggle this cursor on and off.
Here is a tip I learnt from TonyW in EV. I set Windows to beep each time the Caps Lock key is pressed. In Windows 7 . . . Control Panel>Ease of Access Center>Make the keyboard easier to use. Check the box to turn on the sound for the toggle keys

Thanks. I have had the same problem. Don't know how I corrected it but it always got back to normal. I considered it magic. Now I can fix it myself.
Good to see this page is getting some use.

That is a great tip Sepiana! I'm forever bumping that Cap Lock key, not just in Elements, but also things like entering different case sensitive passwords then getting rejected ... Thanks! Mark~
