I've never seen a northern saw-whet owl in the wild until today. Probably would have walked past it but some kid spotted it when they were feeding chickadees...and the chickadees gave the owl way as they were all abuzz around the tiny owl. Now as owls go, this is TINY. And I mean tiny. Its body is not more than 6 inches high and its head maybe 2½ inches wide. Its body is the same size as an American robin ... about the size of a European starling. They eat mice and voles. Northern saw-whet owl
