Wish I was there.
Is this part of a convoy?

Wish I was there. Is this part of a convoy? Some over thirty teams/wagons that day. I go on a two-day ride every August that, except for the last two "virus years", will have more than a hundred teams/wagons. A wagon behind a team is a great way to get photos that would otherwise be nearly impossible; some wagons, though, are much better than others for taking photos; the ones that are not so great for taking photos are the ones you want to be in when it starts raining. Although it is unavoidable to sometimes be on the blacktop, in order to make the route; most of our mileage will consist of seldom-traveled rough gravel roads and sometimes no road at all. Most rides average between twelve and thirty miles a day.

I am going to emigrate. I had a ride on a pony and trap, years ago. We were on country roads, but there was still the occasional car around. Didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying myself, though. I got one photo of the rig in the yard, then discovered it was the last one on the film.

Then you want to land in Casey County, Kentucky. Other places claim to be "The Mule Capitol of the Word", such as Columbia, Tennessee, and Westmoreland, Tennessee; but for shear numbers of people who actually own teams and wagons and actually put them to use almost every weekend, Casey County tops them all; and, the vast amount of rough, rugged, almost inaccessible and highly scenic terrain cannot be equaled anywhere.

Believe you me, BuckSkin, I honestly am green with envy. Sorry. This is the only donkey image I have.

This big pair of red sorrel mules, Bob and Peanut, hail from Green County. At the photo date, they are "coming 4-yr-old", a bit over 17.1-hands, and a bit over 1700-lbs apiece. I have ridden a lot of miles behind that pair of mules. To them, that little red wagon is no more than a fly on their tail. This photo was taken from a team-wagon behind mule team Jenn and Jude; they hail from Sonora, Kentucky. When I saw your photo at the top of this thread it immediately brought to mind that song from Oklahoma....The surrey with the fringe on top...
Chicks and geese and ducks better scurry When I take you out in the surrey When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top.
Beautiful images.

Chicks and geese and ducks better scurry When I take you out in the surrey When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top. Beautiful images. Thanks. My favorite line from Oklahoma is Ado Annie Carnes' (Gloria Grahame) reply to Aunt Eller "that's just what you think"; and, of course, her description of the Persian kitten. The fringe actually serves a practical purpose; instead of rain gushing off the top in buckets, the fringe sort of diffuses it into little drips and streams. Also, icicles on fringe aren't so huge as icicles on something solid.

Looks complicated, how much does the mule help? None at all; if you're lucky, he won't pitch a fit and hinder the process ..... oh, and watch their teeth; a mule can bite like an Alligat ...er I mean Crocodile.
