I spotted this custom rig in the TSC/Tractor Supply Store parking lot. Ford F-450 Super Duty 2nd Generation_2008-2010 I was so busy admiring the unique handiwork of the air-conditioner installation that I didn't even notice the mismatched bed, nor even did I notice it was a different color than the cab. As close as that trailer neck is to the top of the bed, he will soon have that bed destroyed and be looking for another; it is a shame; that is a nice-looking bed. I'm guessing the trailer originally have been trailer camper, for short time I worked for UK American company and the trailer chassis is identical to these in the picture.

the unique handiwork of the air-conditioner HA! So the owner is running a gen set to operate the AC?

I'm guessing the trailer originally have been trailer camper, The trailer shown is a utility goose-neck trailer made for hauling goods such as lumber or equipment. They are different than RV fifth-wheels. Same idea for the chassis.

If you will look closely on the side of the trailer neck, you can make out "Elite" There are several trailer manufacturers using the name Elite, but that trailer and this link are the real deal: www.elitetrailersinc.com/I sure could use that trailer; steel has gotten so high that anything made of steel has skyrocketed in price; that trailer, probably twenty or more years old, will fetch quite a bit more cash today than it retailed for brand-new.

the unique handiwork of the air-conditioner HA! So the owner is running a gen set to operate the AC? He could be going four different routes for the A-C electricity. He could possibly be using a big inverter, which would of course require the truck engine be running when the A/C was in use. I have three big identical TRIPP inverters, brand-new-in-the-box, that I picked up at a swap meet; one of those would handle that little window unit. Although not as common, he could have a second alternator mounted on the engine and have it converted to produce A-C; an alternator actually produces A-C first, which is rectified to DC before leaving the alternator; that is why they call them "alternators" = alternating current. He could have a belt-driven generator mounted on the truck engine. Or, and most likely, he has a generator. From the looks of that rig, I would not doubt that he has a small portable gas-burner generator just sitting in the truck bed; something that would rattle and vibrate and roar like a jet airplane all the time it is running and not last through a night on a tank of gas. Or, he might surprise me and have a quiet generator mounted somewhere to the truck frame and sucking it's fuel from the trucks tank; if the truck is diesel (and surely it is, you can hardly give anyone a gas-burner) and the generator is diesel, you would barely hear it run. That is not the first truck I have seen with a household window unit air conditioner; but, it is the first I have seen with the A/C hanging out the door glass. Most mount them through the rear of the cab and many are mounted down low where they are concealed from casual observers. In the movie "Larry the Cable Guy" or whatever it is, the 1970s stepside Chevy pickup he drives has a window unit mounted through the sliding back glass. On another note, take notice as to how much more classy and stylish the 1980s bed is compared to the cheapish looking 2008-2010 truck cab.
