When Adobe releases an update for Elements, you will get a pop-up about it being available when you launch Elements. Then, you are given two choices -- Install now or Install on exit.
NOTE: If you don't get this pop-up, go to Help > Updates. It should be activated (not grayed out).
However, hidden in the Preferences file is another choice which will give you more control over the update process -- Remind me Later.
1. Go to Edit>Preferences>General>Application Updates (on a Mac -- Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>Preferences> . . . ).
2. Select Notify me when an update is available.
3. Turn on Enable "Remind me Later" for updates.
