The sun has been active the past 3 weeks.. coronal holes, flares and CMEs. (Stuff I only vaguely understand.) As a result, there have been some good aurora displays although I have managed to miss the good events...this far south they can be fleeting: like on Oct 11 when the good part only last 30 minutes and I missed it. Well last night, once again, the aurora blogosphere was agog with anticipation because a CME was expected to hit earth ... and it did. Except there was cloud here in mid evening so I went to bed after 11 but woke up at 1 AM and checked the Aurora Chaser FB page. Folks were excited...there are 100,000 members of this FB group and most live in Alberta. Literally thousands of people were up late and going nuts. So I dressed and walked across the road to the park. It was the best aurora display I've seen in decades close to home. (Yellowknife in 2018 was way better!) HA! I never paid attention to the time as I was taking photo and videos. When I decided to go in I realized that I'd been out for over 90 minutes! Here is a DropBox link to a real-time video. (Not time lapse...actual video shot at high IS0s ... 20,000 to 40,000) The vid is only one minute...the last part shows an unusual pulsing of greens and blues. Fun stuff. Was a great time. Messed up my whole night and day. Need a good sleep.

Thank you all. It was a good event. Thousands of amazing photos posted on the Alberta Aurora Chasers FB page. I missed the good displays of reds that apparently showed up in our area around 6:30 AM. (Should have stay up another hour?! ) It was a fun time, although my whole day was messed up yesterday! The predicted increase in sunspot activity during the new Solar Cycle 25 should make for some good viewing. I need to work on the video settings. The vid is okay but I've seen much better. Will evaluate the technique. Thanks! Clive PS: I do not like a couple of edits and will repost some new versions tonight or tomorrow.
