I made this poster for the weekly challenge, Movies, but we were supposed to use a new photo vs a stock photo. So Helen suggested to post it here. Bali Hai, also known as the Makana Mountain, is a part of a National Tropical Botanical Garden at the beginning of the Na Pali Coast on the north shore of Kauai. The Hawaiian name for this pyramid-shaped mountain peak is Makana or Mount Makana, which means a reward or “gift from heaven” in the Hawaiian language. The movie South Pacific released in 1960 featured this mountain as a forbidden but exotic island called Bali Hai. From then onwards, the name “Bali Hai” has stuck on and most people forgot its original name.Photo taken on Kauai in 2010.

Beautiful Clive and I love how you have done the text.
Brings back memories for me...We as a family went to see the film having booked up for it weeks in advance and were excited when the day came... about 40 minutes into the film all the cinema lights came on and the film was stopped. An announcement was made asking everyone to vacate the premises in an orderly manner as a bomb threat had been received and the Police were waiting to do a search of the building. There was a lot of that kind of thing going on back then but the authorities couldn’t take the chance of ignoring these threats. We were all sent home that night and were given a new date to go back to see the film. Oh and by the way I loved it and I still love the music. I must admit though I could have done without the colour overlays on parts of the film I don’t feel they added anything to it but that’s probably just me.

Lillias Thanks Lillias. Enjoyed your South Pacific story. Glad you did get to see it! We saw a live theater presentation in Calgary about 25 years ago. Maybe you and I could break out in song! Some Enchanted Evening Some enchanted evening, you may see a stranger, You may see a stranger across a crowded room, And somehow you know, you know even then, That somehow you'll see her again and again.

David Cassidy made a recording of Bali Hai, just googled it and I was instantly transported back to my lovestruck teenage years, what a hunk he was....

Lovely songs in South Pacific, Jacki. I shall have to take a look at the David Cassidy version of Bali Hai.
