The siren woke me this morning a couple hours before daylight.
Thankfully, our lights never even flickered.
Not so fortunate for those in Western Kentucky where a single massive tornado remained on the ground for 227 miles, accompanied by several more of less duration but just as deadly.
It is still dark out there and they don't yet know just how bad it has been.
The 227-mile tornado (in KY alone) is a four state event.
The warning siren is about two hundred yards from my bed.
A couple years ago, it vibrated plumb through me when it sounded.
This morning, possibly attributed to the high winds blowing in that direction carrying away the sound and the heavy rains dampening it, or more likely me getting deaf as a post, I could easily and almost did sleep right through it.

Stay safe. Hope it's not too bad for those in the path. Clive Edit.. Just read a news clip. Very bad. So sad for those affected.

Hope you are okay BuckSkin just seeing the news this morning, looks bad. I appreciate everyone's concern. The wind blew like a cyclone and the rain came down in buckets, but the worst of the storms bypassed us. We never even lost power, not even for a split-second as we have several digital LED clocks that will for certain let me know if there is ever the slightest interruption in power. The rain stopped, but it has been super windy all day and still is. It was 70° American before daylight this morning; it is 41° right now; and, it is projected to be 26° tonight.<<<Update: My outdoor thermometer showed a low of 25°

Looking at the massive damage on the news brings back memories of the early 1970s storms.
I believe it was 1973, a killer tornado was just getting started when it crossed our property.
It took down the neighbor's brand-new barn and buggered up the end of our house a little bit.
The one thing I will never forget is the unreal amount of Pink Panther insulation and twisted metal trim and roofing that stayed hung in the trees for twenty or more years after the storm.
12-2 electrical wire hung from the trees like grapevines, with switch-boxes and outlets dangling.
Ten million chronic litterbugs can't do in a lifetime what one tornado can do in a matter of minutes.
Until you have seen the path of such a storm, one just cannot truly fathom the amount of debris that will mark it's path for years to come.
It's like an explosion at a landfill.
