This post was initiated by a member who wanted to add shine to a tomato. Because it includes information that might be useful to members in the future, we have decided to move this thread and title it with the look that was trying to be achieved. Thank you Dick for creating the original post. think that is the approach a utube video was leading to when making a ladies "Lipstick"look glossy but he was going to fast and I couldn't follow it. Something like this? -- www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/glossy-lips.html

Dick, I think you've done really well. I keep comparing the two and trying to work out what you've done - but I can't Anyway, I thought I'd look to see if there were any tutorials for making something glossy and came across this one in PET. If you're not subscribed, I don't think it will open though. www.photoshopelementsuser.com/html/making-glossy-buttons/ I appreciate you don't want to be creating buttons, but maybe somethings in the technique may help you. I also found a YouTube tutorial but it was using Photoshop but, again, maybe some of the techniques, or even the concepts, may help you. I also seem to remember seeing how you can change the direction of lighting on an object but, at the moment, I can't remember where it is in PSE (I have v12). It's in one of the features, maybe in Adjust lighting somewhere? Perhaps, when you've worked it out, you'll be able to write a tutorial for us all ...

Hi Squirrel2014, looks like that one is not only for subscribers because clicking on your link it opened up the tutorial and I am not a subscriber.

fstop, thanks for clarifying that the link is not restricted to non subscribers - could be useful to others Dick, thanks for outlining your workflow. I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of copy/pasting your last post and spaced it out in a Word doc so I can follow more easily. I'll have a go with your technique and also try the techniques in the links I gave above, to learn more. (Dick, would you confirm (PM) if you are happy, or otherwise, about me taking a copy of your workflow? Thx. I don't want to be taking liberties and upsetting people etc. )

Tutorials written by the late Wendy Williams for the PET site are no longer restricted to subscribers. After she passed away, Rick LePage made them available to all as a tribute to her.
Are you thinking of the Lighting Effects filter (Filter>Render>Lighting Effects)?
examples.oreilly.com/9780596521332/lighting_effects.pdf
As a side note -- Adobe removed this filter from Elements starting with version 12.

Member mrkrnbrd added this info: Hi Dick you could select your tomato and then copy and paste it as a new layer then set blending mode to vivid light

Sepiana I can't find what I thought I had seen regarding lighting. I suspect what I was thinking of is when adding Bevels, there is a choice of direction of lighting etc. So, that doesn't help in this respect Thanks for the pdf link, though. Very interesting. Thanks
