Happy New Year. My question is in the subject line. But, here it is again, "short cut to scroll through blend modes in elements 14?" I thought I knew how. Well, I used it a lot in the past, but now either I do not know it or my PSE14 is not working right on latest Windows 10 updates.
And, I am hoping it is simply I am not doing it right. So, I am waiting for enlightenment which is what always brings me here.
Thanks very much.
2022. wow.

I am using PSE 2020, but I'm pretty sure this basic shortcut has not changed since your version
The secret is - you have to be on the Move Tool for this to work Even if it looks like the Move Tool is already selected, click on it again
Shift and plus (or minus) sign will move through the list of blend modes
Another helpful trick:
To change fonts on your text --easily scroll through fonts:
Double-click on a text layer's thumbnail to select the text, then in the Options Bar of the Text Tool, highlight the font name. Press the Up and Down Arrow keys to cycle through your fonts and see exactly what your text will look like

Well, I used it a lot in the past, but now either I do not know it or my PSE14 is not working right on latest Windows 10 updates. Hi Chuck, Happy New Year to you too. Glad to see you back here. The easiest way to scroll down through blending modes is . . . to click on the blending mode once and, then, use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. This does not require the Move tool to be activated. However, just make sure you don't have a "painting" tool activated. Otherwise, you will be changing the blending modes for that particular tool. The other way, suggested by cats4jan, also works. However, there have been reports that sometimes it doesn't. Fortunately, this has nothing to do with which version of Elements is being used. It is related to how one handles the keys on the keyboard -- Hold down vs Tap.1. Select the Move Tool (V). 2. Hold down the Shift key. 3. Tap the plus sign key (+) to scroll forward through the blending modes. 4. Tap the minus sign key (-) to scroll backward through the blending modes. And there is a third way -- using a keyboard shortcut. See . . . Taking a Shortcut to the Blending Modes. NOTE: I also have PSE 14 (Windows 10). All the three ways suggested above work just fine.

Thanks for the responses.
I have, in the past, always scrolled by selecting the move tool and then shift+ plus or minus. That does not work on my newest HP laptop that I bought just one year ago this month.
It has not been much of a problem obviously because I have not been using blend modes as much as I used to do. But, when I do, scrolling makes it so much easier.
Interestingly, using the up and down arrows does work with this laptop keyboard. So, thanks for giving me that heads up.
I have not tried the 3rd one yet.
Thanks again. And, Happy New Year. Chuck

Based on my experience, when this method doesn't work, is because I inadvertency released the pressure on the Shift key. Give it another chance! Glad the 2nd method worked for you. I have to confess this is my favorite one. It can't get any easier -- one key. Post back if you have any further questions.

If you have a mouse with a scroll button all you have to do to scroll through the blend modes is click on the blending mode once and keeping the mouse cursor over the blend mode just turn your mouse scroll button forwards or backwards to change the bend modes.

BillieJean, this works like a charm. Smooth scrolling. Thanks! I'm not familiar with this method. When you do this, does Elements generate previews? I mean, does the image change in the workspace as we scroll through the blending modes? I'm not getting previews (like I get with the other methods discussed earlier in this thread).

Yes Sepiana in PSE the image does change in the workspace giving you a preview as you scroll through the blend modes. I have double checked this and it works for versions 11, 13, 15 and 20 which are all the versions I have.

I tried again and this time I was able to make this technique work in all the Elements versions I have (12 of them!). I checked the mouse connection, settings, etc. and did some cleaning. Problem solved! This was a good learning experience. It's something to keep in mind if someone else has a similar experience. The mouse is a variable to be considered. Check that mouse!

None of the methods appear to work in 2022. Shift +, mouse scroll, or up/down keys which I used with 2019.

HappyScot,
I have PSE 2022 installed on two computers. All the methods suggested work just fine. However, I had some problems with the mouse/scroll method. It didn't work until I checked the mouse connection, settings, etc. and did some cleaning. This is something to keep in mind when using this method.
Personally, I favor the up/down key method. It can't get any easier -- just one key is involved.
