We usually buy a few amaryllis bulbs each Nov or Dec and pot then ourselves. The only ones I found in Dec were at Costco. They came like this: three bulbs in a box. Each bulb has been dipped in wax (like Edam cheese) and requires no watering. The leaves and flower spikes are feeding off the bulb. (Just like an agave Peterj ) They seem to be doing well and in a few days they will flower. I will post an update then. This is shot in our sitting room...with my old, geezer cell phone.

Now I’ve seen everything! Thanks Helen and Jacki. Jacki: me too. Most odd, but seems to be working. I was in line at Costco in December and a person on front of me had one of these packs...and I'd been looking for amaryllis bulbs. So I got one. I assumed we'd have to water the fake moss in the box. Nope. They feed off the bulbs. Apparently, they will not be solid fire-engine red. Bicolor white and pink as I recall. Will post in a few days. Fun stuff.

Growing a tad slower than expected, but the buds are starting to open. Each bulb has two flower spikes and each spike should have two to four flowers. Shall see.

Any progress is good progress, I guess. Are you tempted to help them along just a little, you know add a little something to their red pouches?

Those pictures on your wall, Clive, beautiful. Thank you Jim. There are about 20 canvas and paper prints on the main level. The two above the amaryllis were both shot in Arizona. The large red-rock and rainbow print was from a 2-minute amazing experience in March 2015. I plan to replace the smaller sunset-cactus canvas one of these days. Are you tempted to help them along just a little, you know add a little something to their red pouches? You are psychic Jacki. I mused to my wife this afternoon that since the bulbs are shrinking we should add a tablespoon of water. Apparently, that is not going to happen. Progress should speed up now.

Ah well, it was worth a try... HA HA! Why are you not watching tennis? The Djokovic affair was a bit silly. IMHO, sending him packing was the correct thing. Willie (wife) is somewhat restrained in activities because of her operation last week. She is happy as a clam in high tide that the Open is on.

My Grannie was a firm believer in Miracle Grow; a couple table-spoons apiece should do it. Grandpas hair got to getting thin; she put a half-a-cup in his oatmeal and he got wooly as a bear; after that, he had to shave twice a day.

As for the Djoker, he’s his own worst enemy, but the tennis authorities here also may have led him up the garden path somewhat. I’m glad he was sent home, I think the booing when he came on court would have made all Australians look bad, and we here in Victoria have suffered enough over the last two years. I don’t think I will buy tickets this year, feel safer watching it from home, plus the drinks are cheaper😉🍷🍷🍷🍷

PS, who is Willie picking for the winners, hoping for an Ash Barty victory and a Rafa in the men’s.

She is not a huge Rafa fan, but knows how well he plays ... he looks possessed when he is playing! She quite likes Tsitsipas and Zverev. plus the drinks are cheaper HA HA!
