Many other forum type web sites give their members the option to set their local time zone in their profiles. I can't find such option anywhere in my profile settings. Is it possible for PSE&M to enable members to set their local time zones in their profiles so that posts' timestamps are displayed in members' local time and not GMT? GMT could be just a default setting rather than the apparent cast in stone setting For me, timestamps in my local time are much more useful than GMT times. Thanks

Hi fstop,
I might be wrong, and tpgettys/MajorMajor please correct me if I am, I don't think the forum has the option to have members choose their time zone for post timestamps.

I am pretty sure that the forum software automatically adapts to your computer's time zone; no need for a setting. Is there something you noticed that suggests this is not true?
FYI: GMT was superseded by UTC in 1960.

Up until this morning, whenever I looked at a list of threads in a forum it would display the threads' last post timestamp as 10 minutes ago, 4 hours ago and so on up to 24 hours and then list the time and date. This morning when I logged on, the above timestamp formats were replaced with a date and time with GMT at the end and hence my creating this thread. About 20 minutes after I created this thread the timestamp format on posts reverted to the original I described, which is my preferred format. I just assumed that maybe an administrator might have been tinkering with the forum's configuration settings and then changed them back to their original. All is good now and thank you for the replies to my query

Great! no tinkering going on, as that is not a configurable item.

I am wondering if it would be useful if each member had their time zone displayed, maybe under avatar? I would find it both useful and interesting to be able to see the time zone of members

If people want to display their location in their personal info they can do so. If they don't want to I'd respect that.

Agreed alexr; sharing the location information is a personal choice, and if shared is enough to determine the timezone.

OK, sorry I mentioned it! Julie, nothing to be sorry about, it is a valid question and it is good to have a discussion around the merits of having the time zones showing. I for one am thankful you asked the question!
