hmca as we discussed in "Today's picture" thread. I've noticed that the quality of the images displayed in a post are soft. The larger images in imgbb are better. (Usually it is the other way around.) As I recall, the post display images were better until recently. Look at this test image and then click it to view in imgbb. Marked difference.

I see the difference you are pointing out, Clive. I can't tell you if it is something new or not.

I've noticed that the quality of the images displayed in a post are soft. The larger images in imgbb are better. As I recall, the post display images were better until recently. Clive, This is what I have noticed . . . Large images:- When a large image is uploaded, imgbb will automatically generate a thumbnail. - The thumbnail will look soft. (I’m afraid this is the nature of thumbnails generated by imgbb.) - We have to click on it to see the large image. - The large image will look better (sharp). Small Images:- When a small image is uploaded, imgbb will not generate a thumbnail. - Therefore, the image displayed in the post will look better (sharp). This has been my experience all along; I don't think it's a recent change. (I may be wrong though.) |

Yeah, quite a difference. This posted image will be further compromised just because it is posted in the thread. Click on this image: the imgbb version clearly demonstrates the difference.  |

If this is to be really tested and I can't do it this morning, the linking method from an account should be considered. I can do it but it may take a few days.

I agree with Sepiana that it's always been that way - although I think there have been times when it was a little better than at other times. Whether it's the site or imgbb that generates the thumbnail I'm not sure but the max width is 640 pixels so anything bigger has been downsized and compressed and the downsizing is nothing like as good as downsizing in applications like Photoshop. I don't think it's a recent change. (I may be wrong though.) it's always been that way - although I think there have been times when it was a little better than at other times. Thanks. I must be getting more critical these days. I had never noticed significant quality loss before. |

Tony, I noticed the same thing -- the quality of the thumbnails seems to vary from time to time. I wonder if this is related to changes in the algorithm that imgbb uses to create the thumbnails. Also, as expected, their softness is even more obvious when we zoom in, not so much otherwise. |

Revisiting this thread after posting today. What I have seen is that thumbnails from the link ADD IMAGE TO POST VIA IMGBB.COM come out blurry. This could be a forum setting. If instead I upload the image and use the link for Full it comes in sharp. Note that you get a button to hit for copy the link. Hope that helps. I will be using this method going forward. Much better result. Did not use it for the screen shot below.  |

BuckSkin you have to create an account an imgbb. Benefits are two fold. If you don't have an account and you don't select auto deletion they own your images forever. If you do select auto delete after X time they will not show up here after that. So with the account, as I did above I clicked on the image on imgbb and selected the choice for full and you can see the difference. In summary, there are good reasons for an imgbb account. IF this isn't clear I will try again.

you have to create an account an imgbb. Thanks; that clears it up. Also, thanks for clearing up my misunderstanding about "Autodelete" ; I thought it meant that it would delete the image FROM MY END after uploading. |
