This is Main Street McKinney. In the late 1800s/early 1900s, McKinney was a thriving railroad town with several industries and was a major stop for Southern passenger trains. Now, all that is left is the excellent trackside McKinney Depot restaurant; and, to drive the final nail in the economic coffin, a brand-new Dollar General Store. McKinney is a very short distance from the impressive and legendary South Fork Trestle and famed Kings Mountain. All of this is easily accessed and photographed; you can even dine outside on the porch at the Depot and watch train after train after train. Yes, that link also got me a little confused... That's strange --- I copy/pasted it straight off the address bar while looking right at McKinney KY. I will investigate and fix it directly. The restaurant is around the corner, beside the tracks, not in the picture. I will see if I have a photo and post it; if not, I will run up there and take one.

Which building is the restaurant? Regarding the messed up link, see my "Note:" in the first post. Here is an end view of the restaurant showing a portion of the porch. The caboose belongs to the restaurant and houses a gift shop. I am working toward finding more pictures of the restaurant. www.facebook.com/pages/category/Restaurant/The-McKinney-Depot-124945299918/Southern Railway Steel Bay Window Caboose at McKinney Depot Restaurant. I have no idea as to road number or date of manufacture. Similar caboose weigh 55,700 lbs filled and fitted operating weight. Hmmmm....I still ended up with Texas, Buckskin. So I googled McKinney Kentucky and got the wikipedia post. Now let's see if my link works. Very strange, BuckSkin.....must be those gremlins at work. Anyway, thanks for the picture of the restaurant and the link. We had a similar restaurant that was a fun place to eat. It was called Casey Jones in Long Branch, NJ.

I added this link to the initial post; Start at the paragraph beginning "E.J.Tanner": www.google.com/books/edition/History_of_Kentucky/40DLy967K6MC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=railroad+history+of+McKinney+KY&pg=PA280&printsec=frontcoverAmong several other industries, McKinney boasted a tannery, a woolen mill, a flour mill, a Masonic Lodge (which may still be active), a precast concrete factory, and more. This is the metropolis of McKinney as seen from the North end of the siding. I am standing close to the RxR tracks that are visible in the photos of the initial post. The street that curves in the center of the photo is Main and is the street we were on when those photos were taken. The caboose butts up against the end of the restaurant. We are seeing the back side of the restaurant. The RxR tracks are just out of the photo to the right and pass between the corner of the restaurant and the trees. These two buildings front on Main Street; I have no idea what they originally were, nor what they are now. I am standing beside the restaurant with the RxR at my back. 37° 27' 14.10" North Latitude 84° 45' 32.78" West Longitude Elevation: 1,016' McKinney Depot CNO&TP - Norfolk & Southern Railway McKinney - Lincoln County - Kentucky Saturday_18-September-2021 In the corner of the grass, beside the light-pole, is a precast concrete "safe room" The swan is on the hood of my truck. McKinney Masonic Lodge #631 Established October 19, 1887 The blue-roofed annex says "Carter Hall" above the door. This fronts on Main Street. On the hill above KY Hwy 698 resides the McKinney Water Tower. Looking up Main Street to the brand-new Dollar General Store that is located on the opposite side of KY Hwy 198. On the left flank is the 1887 Masonic Lodge.

The first link goes to McKinney Texas Yes, that link also got me a little confused... I fixed the truncated link in the first post and it should work now; I apologize for the inconvenience. And, thanks to hmca for showing me how to get around this site's glitch of truncating certain links such that they don't connect.
