Long story, short version. We had been at the spot earlier in the day because of the interesting rainwater patterns on the red rocks. Our rental house was about 3 km away. That evening I was cooking dinner and looked out of the kitchen window to see this very cool late-day sunlight on Courthouse Butte. So I grabbed my gear and after breaking a few moving-traffic laws arrived at the same parking area we had been at a few hours before. Set up my camera on the tripod and took a couple of photos and then for a couple of minutes (3 tops) a partial double rainbow appeared. It was magical. And then it ended. Lucky me. This 24-inch by 36-inch canvas hangs in our sitting room. A pleasant memory.
