Not sure if this works with Windows, but it does on my Mac Just recently, this happened, by accident and I am loving it. I was on a file in the Finder and I hit the spacebar - a large sized preview of the file came up. Hit the spacebar again, and it closed That wasn't the best part of this discovery - it works on psd files where instead of the little picture showing, a psd icon is in my file list (Not sure what I did differently that on some of my psd's I can see the project and on some I get only an icon, but it has been a pain to deal with) I have had a Mac for 10 years and a PC for 30 years and I don't remember if I've ever known this - I've always had to double click the file to open it in Preview.
I know this sounds like a small thing, but I am often looking through my scrapbook pages and need to see more detail than the tiny icon... this spacebar trick is so much easier than Preview when I'm jumping from file to file

That's called "Quick View" and it works for practically any file type; text, rtf, numbers/docx, wurd, pages, audio, etc. It's been around at least since OS X. There are also apps/extensions(?) that allow Windows users to have this capability. There are about 893.7 keyboard shortcuts for the Mac (not counting the ones for different apps!). Probably about the same in Windows. Some time in the future, when you have a free week, you might try to learn some more of them!

it works for practically any file type Yes, I noticed it worked with a couple of other file types - figured it worked with all of them Maybe I knew this way back when. I've had a computer since 1982 - I must've learned some interesting shortcuts along the way... BTW - I've been looking through that link for the Mac shortcuts. I do use a lot of them, but I have bookmarked the site for future reference.

I too enjoyed this shortcut, but I’m now running Monterey on a new Mac with the M1 processor, and it doesn’t seem to work any more. One has to select the file, or the image, then hit Command + Y. Not an improvement, IMO, but just another thing to get used to.

Appears to be a Monterey problem. Here is an Apple Support topic with a suggested solution. Could be as simple as Quitting Finder, which will automatically restart. BTW, I found mention of a couple of extensions for Windows to create this function. Just search for something like "spacebar quicklook windows 10".
