Peter DOF in the top image could be a bit deeper to get the three lobes of the stigma sharper. The softness behind is perfect. Increasing depth on the stigma might require a tripod and no wind (if it is outside) to get a smaller aperture. Technique would depend in overall light levels. The stigma looks like it might have been in shade .. not sure. Perhaps it could be a tad lighter. The flower spike depth works well and the soft bokeh background is pleasing.

Had a quick look at that flower/stamen image exif data If there is way to change settings and increase the aperture to (say) f8 or so and increase the ISO to 200+ (or whatever works) then the DOF would be deeper.

Clive I think my idea of a back lit tulip captured with my iPhone and Apexel macro lens just isn't working. I like your idea to get more of the stigma and pollen in focus. I used my Panasonic's macro mode for this iteration of the same flower.

I used my Panasonic's macro mode for this iteration of the same flower. The backlighting look very good. Can you try the same with a flash to slightly brighten the inside of the flower? Been warm enough here for tulips at 59°F today but we are weeks away from the end of winter..and it will get cold again.

I added a sunshine filter. Here's a screen shot of 4 possibilities including the tulip. I'd appreciate your input. TIA

Thanks Clive, I've decided to go with the simple, clean pic ... the yucca
