"Found" my second northern saw-whet owl in the river valley yesterday. This is a different bird than the November bird. A small bird but large on cute. Size? Imagine a fluffed up Coke can .. they are very tiny. You can see how tense and nervous it was. Ha ha. Did not give one hoot that I was only 12 feet away. Zzzzz. They hunt for mice and voles at night and sleep all day.      |

is he scratching his nose . . . er, beak? No. It's head is nestled down into its shoulder and it is sleeping. Another angle of the same position.  |

They hunt for mice and voles at night and sleep all day. If I was a mouse or a vole, I would be sure and do my mouse and vole business during the daytime while that dude was asleep. |
