These are great; calendar quality.
You are blessed to live so close to such a vast array of photographable wildlife.
Most anything around here won't show itself until it is black dark, plus we don't have near the variety.

They look so cute, never thought I'd ever say that about a rodent...

Oh Clive - can I move in with you??? You have the most beautiful variety of wildlife...
but, then again, it's your photography that makes it.

Well, gosh, thank you BuckSkin , jackscrap and cats4jan This is a good example of excellent lighting: clear skies, mid afternoon sun angle and reflections of the ice and water. And muskrats are rarely this approachable. Other than tunneling into farm dugout banks and under the banks of pond edges (and creating ankle-breaking pockets) they are unassuming, harmless vegetarians that only eat aquatic pond plants. Years ago, I watched a mother muskrat work nonstop hauling fresh greens from out in the pond to her under-bank den to feed her kits. Busy little critters.

Agree with the others, Clive. Beautifully photographed....love the color, clarity and reflections. Thanks for the additional info above.

And muskrats are rarely this approachable. Do you smear yourself with Muskrat musk to disguise your scent; or, would that be giving away one of your trade secrets ? Some use Skunk musk as it will cover just about any other smell; just spritz some on your clothing and put a couple drops behind each ear and you are good to go. You should find what you need here: Skunk ScentOther Scents and Lures

Superb wildlife shots - as always - Clive!
Let us know if the musk helps you get any closer to the wildlife in your area, though I suspect it won't help you get any closer to your family ;^)

Do you smear yourself with Muskrat musk to disguise your scent; HA HA! No. I do wear a camo jacket, but when you are ~30 feet away they can see you. I walked very slowly toward them, stopping frequently. And still they dove under a few times. I normally carry a monopod with me when hiking and so glad I had it this day. The camera is always in position and I stood in 3 or 4 spots along the pond for about 45 minutes. The monopod saves the arms and shoulders and means less movement when taking photos.
