Like these as well. What amazes me is the complete lack of hoards of people crawling all over everything and cluttering up the scene; how did you manage that ?

Like these as well. What amazes me is the complete lack of hoards of people crawling all over everything and cluttering up the scene; how did you manage that ? The viewing platforms are generous, and people take their photos and leave so that others can move into the space and take the shots they want. I got a few laughs trying to master getting our images and the background in with my selfie stick...

Maybe a dumb question....., I am assuming you are using some sort of phone..... can you see the image and composition before you snap the shot, or are you working blind ? How do you activate the shutter; is it a timer; does it read your mind ? Did you ever get the GoPro you mentioned some time ago ? (at least I think it was you)

The water and wind is coming straight off the Antarctic, not a beach for swimming in. Now that can be chilly for sure. But there's no ice. Great scenery and photos.

(at least I think it was you) I had the choice between a GoPro or a newer phone, opted for the iPhone 12 Pro, very happy with the photos it takes! The selfie stick has a remote button to activate the phone to take a photo, my problem is being able to hold the phone far enough away to see what's on the screen....I wear glasses for distance but on sunny days seeing anything on my phone is a challenge. I actually think that the selfie stick helps me get the horizon level fairly accurately most times and it's good for holding out over fences and barricades to get more of the shot in. I've put my little Point and Shoot camera away for the moment, so all of these photos have been taken with the phone.

....I wear glasses for distance but on sunny days seeing anything on my phone is a challenge. I know what you mean; my Canon S90 Point and Shoot that I carry in a holster on my belt when working, although it captures RAW, it lacks a viewfinder; thus, I must aim my shots by looking at the screen - socker-mom style; if the sun is anything close to shining on the screen, all I see is black = makes for a lot of guesswork. I've put my little Point and Shoot camera away for the moment Of course you already know this, so I will put it here for those who don't. If you moth-ball the Point and Shoot, be sure to set a reminder to charge all of it's batteries every four months, even if you are not using it. Lithium batteries have a chip in them that will not allow them to accept a charge once the battery drains below a certain level, which is not much below nominal voltage. There are expensive chargers that will over-ride this chip, but you can buy several new batteries for what one costs. I was fortunate enough to get one of those chargers in a package deal with an EBay camera I bought and was able to save some batteries that came with another EBay Point and Shoot that had been idle for quite some time; the lady included several batteries with the camera and every one of them was a dead soldier from being idle for so long.

Jacki - those photos are fantastic
I have all but abandoned my point and shoot. I figure, I was using it on auto all the time, so what's the difference between using my iPhone instead of the camera. Although my last p&s did not have a viewfinder, I miss having one on the iPhone - especially on sunny days. When I hold the phone far enough away to see the screen, my hands shake - so photo quality is an issue. But I have to admit, the last two vacations, I left my camera at home. I do not plan to replace my camera to get the benefit of a viewfinder - I just don't travel enough anymore. But this shaking - boy, it's annoying and I am sorry if I miss a great shot because I can't see the screen properly. I try to make up for not seeing the screen by taking a dozen shots of the same thing. That usually works well enough.

When I hold the phone far enough away to see the screen, my hands shake - so photo quality is an issue. You make a very valid point that I had not thought of before; and, surely, camera manufacturers who market viewfinderless cameras where one is expected to compose their shots by looking at a screen did not think it through as well. Shooting a photo is much like shooting a rifle; results are better when the weapon is steady.
