A native legume common along rivers. The seed pods have burs. Took this while walking yesterday. PS: I am convinced that ProBoards has reduced the image quality of images displayed in PSEM. Sharp images appear soft when posted and only show improvement when viewed in imgbb.

Is that what Licorice candy is made from ? not those awful-tasting red rubber strings, but hard Licorice, like Horehound candy (or is it Hoarhound) ?

No, wild licorice is different than the "licorice plant" used as a candy flavoring. Wild licorice root apparently has a similar flavor. We agree on red "licorice " .. horrid stuff. (No offense to anyone who likes red licorice.) See if you can find Panda black licorice made in Finland...so good. The best. www.pandalicorice.com/

Looks like a very interesting plant, how sharp and spiky are those pods? They look really sharp in the imgbb link. I agree with the soft images that appear in the forum posts, I've decided to share the link through Flickr now, much better quality

how sharp and spiky are those pods? They are not sharp (as in, poke-your-skin sharp) because they are hooked like Velcro but they will cling to soft clothing. As it is a legume, those are actual seed pods and the burs are an evolutionary adaptation for spreading seeds via animals. I'll try another image platform perhaps. Thanks.
