The other day I received an e mail advertising a program that can securely turn a webcam on and off with the click of a mouse to prevent hackers from gaining control. Well, it got me thinking, but I didn't want to pay for the program. So, I developed an "AI powered" anti-hack program using the "cardboard flap and tape" algorithm. With the flick of a finger my webcam can be securely turned on or off! Kind regards Chris

Thanks. As I never use a webcam, I never thought of the possibility that some enterprising creep could be watching me through one. After reading your post, I glanced around at my monitors; and, unless the webcam is incorporated within the screen and invisible, I don't think any of our desktop/monitor setups even have webcams; however, there are a few laptops around here, always ON and OPEN and performing various tasks, and some of them do have what appears to be possibly a camera lens above the screen. Before bedtime tonight, these will get treated with two or three layers of black tape.
Now, if they can see, they can probably also hear; what are we going to do about that ?
On a similar subject, I have often read and been told that all of the "smart" TVs are watching and listening 24/7, so I try to put on a really good show for them. Way back when I was a kid and TVs were finally beginning to show up in the homes of the more wealthy around here, early 1960s (Kentucky is always thirty years behind), one of the most intelligent men I knew refused to have one in his home; his explanation, "If they can bring it into your living room, they can surely take it out".

Have a piece of tape over all the webcams - the thought of having my camera on all the time is creepy
I know, I know - I have 'old person-itis"
When I wanted to video chat this Christmas - I removed the tape -- but, I have to admit, I like the "flap up flap down" a whole lot better
As for sound - I have mine turned off most of the time - unless actively using it. That's not because of creepiness - that's because I don't want the sound of ads running in the background. I assume if I have my sound off, they can't hear me either, but who the heck knows.
As for the smart TV - I guess I'm being watched -
I GIVE UP
