Amazing what can be created with Photoshop Elements, the Rino was from my camera collection.

Could you explain a little more about how you did this, Jim?

Could you explain a little more about how you did this, Jim? Run out of time last night, Helen, to explain, a friend of mine does 3D pencil art drawings and paintings and asked him if I could use his pencil art design with PSE, his design had a racing car on the table with his grandson to the left of the able looking at the car, so his design was only a guidance for me to get started.

So here we go. I 1st took several image angles of our table. In PSE, do 2 transparent backgrounds, one squarish & one slightly wider, then copy these layers & paint bucket layers black. With your table images manipulate to get the required table effect and apply gradient tool, then copy to new table layer, highlight lower table layer, apply Filter, Render, Fibers, with the top table layer lower opacity ie 50%. I found it more effective using the wider transparent layer so disgarded the square one. Highlight both table layers and copy, then Create new group to hide the layers, with the other two layers check 'hide' as it's possible you may need to make slight changes to the table layout later on, this way you can compare any changes within your layer group.
This will give you the wood grain effect

Next was to get the paper effect, to do this I layed piece A4 paper on our table with low light and took a picture or several and manipulated onto the table, then copy layer and paint black (shadow), with the paper layer Polygonal Lasso Tool form the lifting edge effect. I then done same with the pencil to new layer and copy 2 layer shadows. I used a range of my camera images, cars, cycles, kitchen utensils etc, found the Rino to be effective as I previously done an image of one as shown.

As the image shows here the effect is still not quite effective enough and needed something, I sent this image to my friend to see what he thought and said take another close look at his drawing again and of cause that was it, he had the boy to the left of the table, immediately I thought of a chair, and hardest part of all of this was designing the chair which I will mention in my next post.

I've seen quite a few of these 3D drawings in my wanderings on the Internet, they are so clever and superbly done. I love what you have done here tourerjim and to be able to do it in PSE is great. You have inspired me to give it a try at some point. I trust we will see more of your creations as this is fun.

Thanks for sharing how you went about this, Jim. Looking at your flickr link and thinking of images that you have shared here in the past you seem to be someone who definitely likes a challenge and has a tremendous amount of patience.

As much as I can do is, Paint By Numbers 🤣🤣🤣 my mate is brilliant at pencil drawing, I started out taking pictures of boxes to create cubes, place image box in editor and draw outline of the box, then discard your image (box), to get a good FOV I take a picture of Cornflakes box, endless ways to use your camera to start your 3D image. Thanks for sharing how you went about this, Jim. Thanks, Helen, yes love the challenge and the many hours that go with it, but then I don't watch TV so more spare hours.

Here's another example of what Filter, Render, Fibers can do, all this is done within PSE only. This start image from my camera collection Completed in PSE Using Filter Fibers, immediate effect

As I said in a previous post tourerjim I have seen these 3D drawings on the Internet and thought they were great but you have inspired me to actually try creating one myself. I can’t draw so I extracted the image of the bike from a photo and ran a black and white photo sketch action to get the sketch effect. I used an image from Rawpixel to provide the desk and for wallpaper I used a paper from a kit called ‘Emily’s Locket’ by G&T Designs. The drawing paper and hand is from HiClipart. I altered the paper to the shape I needed. I used some Pencilmark brushes by stuffwemake from Brusheezy to create the pencil marks and shadows under the bike. It’s not perfect but it was fun.
