I have had Kaspersky as my security software for many years now. I just read that the US has added it to their banned list. ...I also read a while back that Kaspersky itself says its headquarters are not in Russia and that there is no risk to customers. What to believe??? I am in Canada and am wondering if I should change software???

I have seen that on several sites, including Reuters, so I am inclined to believe it is true.
"Kaspersky said in a statement that it was disappointed in the FCC decision, arguing it was made on political grounds." I wouldn't be surprised to find that is also true. I have heard that they have taken substantial steps over the past 4+ years to address the security concerns about their products.

If you wish to read more about their efforts to reassure the world about the integrity of their products you can visit the Kaspersky Transparency Center, headquartered in Switzerland.

A company can have a "headquarters" in just about any country they want. Having a "headquarters" in Switzerland means very little. If I'm not mistaken, that is where a very large number of "hidden" bank accounts are. There are literally dozens of software devs in Ukraine, but only a few are still able to work right now, of course. I'm perfectly happy to dump any software made in any communist state.
