I've ps element 2020. I updated the software but now I clicked on import from device. no camera or scan is selected. What do I do now?

As I believe you are on a MAC,
If you open up finder does your device show up in finder? if it does you may need to right click on the device to "trust" it. If not - you need to get it to show up in finder first.
If you are attempting to read from the memory card in your camera, why not just get a card read to connect the memory card to the computer.
