These tiny (smaller than a chickadee) birds are amazing. They do not migrate and forage on dead bug parts and eggs all winter mainly in conifer trees. They do not stop moving and hard to photogrpah. In addtion to being fast they are usually in dense tree bush. So tiny. Photographed today (April 13) in a city park. A friend told me where they were at. I never go to this park so would never have found them. Lucky me. Please look inside imgbb as they are soft when viewed here.    |

Look at that bright gold crown. He sure is a pretty one. Being able to capture such an elusive guy has to make you proud

Thanks all. Was most lucky to get a couple of decent photos. These birds are small and overly active. I have never heard of these beautiful little birds. For BillieJean and whippet I said these are smaller than chickadees...that are closely related to your coal tits. Weight of coal tits is reported to be about 8 to 10 grams. Kinglets weigh about 4 to 8 grams. Hummingbirds are only smaller than kinglets. I saw a diff species of kinglet here at my home park today, but photos are bad. I've not seen one across the road since 2014. |
