I thought I had found something new when I ran across this Blake Rudis fun tutorial but then realised that it's the Twirl that was Challenge No. 11 back in 2015. That must have been before my time here as I had never done a twirl before so I did a spiral flower and got hooked! So I thought we all might like to play with spiral flowers or twirls this week! 1. Start with any photo - bright colours and especially complementary colours work well. If you want a centered spiral crop square but any aspect ratio works. 2. Filter > Pixelate > Mezzotint > Medium lines 3. Filter > Blur > Radial blur (slider = 100, blur method = zoom, quality = best) 4. Repeat step 3 up to 5 times, as desired (3 is good usually) 5. Duplicate layer 6. Remain on original layer. Filter > Distort > Twirl (angle value = +80 or as desired) 7. Select new layer. Filter > Distort > Twirl (angle value = -80 or opposite of step 6 angle value) 8. Alter new layer’s blending mode to lighten 9. Add a levels adjustment layer and adjust. 10. Stamp Visible (Ctrl-Alt-Shift- E) to create a new layer incorporating all the effects 11. Modify accordingly - for example sharpen, add more saturation, apply other effects, add a border - anything goes. Some other things to try: Try Mezzotint coarse dots or short lines or leave out this step Try twirl +200 on one layer and Twirl -100 on the next Try adding a Spherize or two And if you want an action there are two posted in the original Twirl Challenge and they both still work. As always have fun and experiment Tony

Love the twirl effect. Should be a fun challenge. I did use an action that I had uploaded but don't' know who the creator was. Additional editing done in NIK CE 4. I remember using the high key and detail extractor filters. Good to see that imgbb is working again.

Thought I'd see what happened to today's picture. Cropped to a square and used Diana's twirl action.

I tried a cross between spiral and twirl, using a plain - ish image. Well, it's different.

What an interesting transformation, whippet. Reminds me of one of those space alien characters from a 1950's - 60's sci-fi flick, like "Invasion From Mars" etc.
