Savage Amusement. I changed to sepia, then put the angler on a separate layer, and got him to black & white. I wanted the sepia layer to look faded. But, haven't a clue what to do.

Margaret, your picture is perfect for this theme. It would work as either a sepia toned image or in black and white. Could you explain a little bit more about what you had in mind for the final look?

Thank you, Helen. I just wanted to make the angler more prominent, but couldn't just fade the rest of it out. To me, the background looks 'too busy'. The theme being solitude.

To achieve this I would suggest that you create two copies of your image. Convert one to black and white and the other to sepia. Rather than putting the fisherman on his own layer you could place the sepia image on top and use a mask to bring back just the fisherman. You could then reduce the opacity of the sepia layer. Not sure if this is exactly what you want to do either. Will keep thinking about it and perhaps someone else might have a suggestion.

An egg ... two ways. BW conversion in-camera with a Tri-X film simulation, ISO 160. f5/0, 1/9, exposure comp -2 (I think I had my exposure comp setting left over from a previous shot.) This one is a "push" version of the same simulation to highlight the grain. ISO 12800. f5.0, 1/280, exposure comp -2/3 Thanks for the theme Helen. It's always fun experimenting.

Two interesting compositions of a simple subject. Glad you had fun experimenting....and thanks for adding the camera settings, Bill.

Like how you brought out the details in the black feathers, Clive. Nice capture!

Nice minimalist image, Karen. Like the reflection and the bird resting on top.

Was supposed to be one subject (a trillium in the woods today taken with a phone) but a couple of bugs snuck into the scene. Texture of petals enhanced in Silver Efex. Tony

I have always liked flowers in B/W. I think I actually used one as my avatar at EV. The bugs add a whimsical touch to your flower, Tony.

I think the B/W emphasizes the shape of your lamp without a possible distraction if presented in color.
