A friend shared this technique a year or so ago. I have yet to try it but was reminded of it after seeing this post by pontiac1940.
Select a flower that is isolated- no other flower or leaves behind it.
camera settings
manual mode
aperture at small setting i.e. f16 or f22
shutter speed 1/200
ISO 100 or 200
turn flash on - best if using larger added flash but works with camera pop up flash
move in very close to flower
shoot straight out - do not point up or down - avoid the ground or the sky
