The wife came in last night all excited "You'll never guess what I saw; Oh, I hope my pictures came out good."
With an entrance like that, I thought she might have seen a tiger, or an elephant, or maybe Bigfoot again; instead, this herd of Polecats were crossing Edgar Jessee Road.
She was driving a machine similar to the one in the photos, loaded with half her nieces and nephews, and saw the skunks at the edge of the road as she flew by. She quickly stopped and twisted around in the seat and snapped these photos with her phone before they disappeared into the tall grass.
The road dead-ends and they are probably the most traffic it had seen that day. The driveway at left, with the barns and all the many Massey-Ferguson tractors, is where she was born and raised.
I think it would have been absolutely hilarious if her and that prolific plus-sized sister-in-law, and all them youngen's had of got sprayed really good.
You can learn all about polecats at National Geographic, Britannica, and Wikipedia.
The quality of the photos is quite poor; but, in all the many thousands of photos we have taken, I think we only have two other photos of skunks and they are of poorer quality than these.

Don't worry about the quality, BuckSkin, your wife did very well, managing to get the pictures. I wouldn't mind betting that these are the only ones you have where a whole family is crossing a road. Mrs BuckSkin is to be congratulated on her quick thinking.

Well done Mrs B, great shots and I just have to ask "why did the skunks cross the road?'

I just have to ask "why did the skunks cross the road?'
That's something you'll have to ask the skunks.
From the original photos, you can see about how much distance was between the wife's machine and the one following.
When the wife first saw them, they were on photo-right side of the road, and crossed the road to photo-left between the two vehicles.
But skunks have the attitude that they can go just where they darn well please and not many are going to argue the point.
I believe that attitude is what gets so many killed on the road.

I just checked the time-stamp on these = 19:57:38 = 7:57PM; for all practical purposes, that's dark.
Her phone must automatically lighten photos taken in dark conditions and that would explain the poor quality of the images.
That farm is some over 200-acres and it shares a mile of fence with the 1,200-acre R. F. Tarter Wildlife Management Area; plus, there are equally large farms on all other sides; a person might hang out around there for a month and never see them again; and then, they might cross the road right there at the same time every night.
