Hi cjt,
I also use the Organizer but I have never seen that icon on my images. I paid a visit to Adobe Community Support and found this report. See the explanation by
michelb , our in-house Organizer guru.
What is meaning of icon (circle with slash) on thumbnail?I'm not sure this will apply to your situation. I'm sending a PM to Michel bringing this thread to his attention. Hang in there!
Hi, the "Non match" icon only appears when the three following criteria are present:
- when you display the result of a search (it's a property of the search criteria, not of the file itself)
- .AND. when the thumbnail shown is in a stack or a version set
- .AND. when the precise item does not meet the search criteria while other items in the stack or version set do meet them.
Examples:
1 - Your original is in colours, one of your 'versions' of the version set has been converted to black and white. You assign the keyword "B&W" to the
version only. A search for "B&W" will return both, the original having the 'Non match' icon.
2 - You have a picture of two persons A and B. You create two versions by cropping each person and assigning persons keywords to A and B but none to the original. A search for A or a search for B will also return the original with the Non-match icon.
3 - A search by visual similarity groups several files of different origins in a single stack: chances are they won't have the same keywords. However all members of the stack will be displayed with or without the Non-match icon.
A word about the Organizer vs Bridge.
The organizer is based on a catalog and its principle is very similar to Lightroom. Associated with the ACR module, it can both organize with a catalog and provide a non-destructive parametric editing.
Bridge is a super browser without a database. It works from the information stored in the media files themselves with the help of a powerful cache system. The full Photoshop users may use only Lightroom, but they like to use Bridge when they are working with other Adobe softwares.
For the typical requirements of most PSE users, the organizer is generally by far the best tool.
No comparison for speed of searches, automatic searches and organizing features. Well integrated with the editor. Good backups...
But Bridge is interesting together with the organizer (it is free!) for other reasons, especially if you want more features for working with metadata. The trouble will only happen if you forget that you can't delete, rename or move files with Bridge without disconnecting files in the catalogs...
(note that it's the same within the organizer if you have several items in two different catalogs. What you do in one catalog will be ignored in the other). Of course, Bridge will be useful if you are using other Adobe softwares like Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat...
And don't forget that the organizer can organize your files as well with the full Photoshop as an external editor. I have even tested setting Bridge as the external editor. As I have a subscription, I can take advantage of Bridge to use the full ACR module instead of the limited one in Elements.
