The Old Spring Maple
This old Maple is about a third or less the mass that it was when we first moved here. It straddles a huge fresh-water spring that emanates from it's base. The spring flows out of a cave-like opening that goes way back in under the tree. On the upper side of the tree, there are big holes where the earth has collapsed into this cavern and been carried on down the creek. The spring is the origin of Mount Olive Creek. In 2.1-mile as the Crow flies, Mount Olive Creek and two other creeks converge to become Russell Creek just 350-yards/0.2-mile before the KY Hwy 1729/Russell Creek bridge.
