A few days ago, I created a post in 'This and That' about Vancouver photographer and educator, Sharon Tenenbaum. She has a unique take on photography. She shares her techniques and her vision weekly with anyone who wants to attend her sessions. There's no commitment when you sign up for one of her 'Talk and Learn' sessions--and they are totally free. You sign up and just attend (via Zoom). You can attend every week, or just attend the sessions in which you are interested. Her sessions are 10 a.m. Vancouver time, 1 p.m. Eastern Time. Her critique of attendee photos is especially insightful and helpful--that's how she starts off each week.
Next week--July 19th--her topic will be Black and White!! Here's what she says on her website: "The human eye does not see in black & white, so why are we so intrigued when we see a black & white photograph? Why do some B&W images stand out from the rest? In this session, we will talk about the importance of form and tonal range when converting or creating a B&W image and how some colours convert better to B&W."

Another class which I so enjoyed watching. Once again she began the talk with images that had been submitted by attendees pointing out how they were edited to emphasize form and tonal range. The next group she discussed were those that still needed some work with suggestions for improvement. She emphasized defining areas by creating selections and then toning to add dimension. She shared a beautiful landscape that when first converted to black and white looked flat. She followed it with the same image once changes in tonal contrast had been created. She introduced the idea of adding a shape/shapes based on the content of an image to fill with complete black or white. I think her class would have been appreciated by any of our members who have an interest in Black and White Photography.

Helen, since I was sick, I missed this one and might purchase it so I can view it...do you think it's worth buying it?
