I just came in and found this on my screen.
I have never had such a warning to show up before.
If I click "Okay" or "X", are those actually the commit buttons that will turn some monster loose in my system ?
That silly steaming cup and saucer icon is displaying on the TaskBar.
For years and years, I have read all kinds of horror stories about Java and how it is a Trojan Horse for all sorts of malware; but then, almost anything one goes to do requires Java --- what to do --- what to do.
If this even is a legitimate Windows warning, they are always so stingy with their explanations --- does "Okay" mean "Okay, run the file" --- or, does it mean "Okay, thanks for letting me know and send this file to the dungeon" ?
I am ever-watchful to not allow any program to automatically update which is why this is somewhat of a mystery to me.

That is the name of an update to the java runtime engine (jre) that was just released today I believe, but it should have a valid signature.
I wish I could be more helpful...

I wish I could be more helpful... You have helped plenty.
Do you think I will be okay to just X it away ?

If you are unsure, I recommend going directly to the java.com site where you can download the latest version.
Java can have vulnerabilities which is why you want to keep it updated. I find there is less and less need to have the Java client installed, so if you aren't sure you need it, I would uninstall it. Then if you try to run an app that needs it, you can put it back.
