Some have expressed concern and interest in last nights devastating flooding in Eastern Kentucky.
16 dead as of a few minutes ago.
HERE is the site for the local TV news with lots of information.
We are high and dry; I paid attention when they made us sing that little song in Bible School.

Glad you are safe and I've sung that little song in Sunday School many a time.

Glad you and your family are safe. I'm contacting my cousin in eastern KY to be sure all is well with her and her family. She's a tad north of the danger zone, though...Johnson County.

I'm contacting my cousin in eastern KY The news is saying cell phones are not working at all in the affected areas, which surprises me.
I would have thought that, not having any wires to get knocked down, cell phones would not be affected by such things; but, I guess when the power goes out the towers quit working.
One would think the FCC would step in and make them have big back-up generators to keep things going when everything else has quit.
I would say that your cousin is probably fine unless they were travelling and got caught in the mess.
After this is over, the used car dealers will hit the insurance auctions and their lots will be full of those water-logged cars and trucks that you see half-submerged in the news video. They will dry them out and power-wash the mud from under the hood and spray a little Evening in Paris inside to mask the moldy smell and resell them with half-an-inch of river sand still in the oil-pan.
I wouldn't recommend anyone buying any fuel in the area either, unless they want a tank full of water.

Many cell towers/systems do have backup generators. However, those generators need fuel tanks which may be washed away, can't be reached to re-fill, etc. Plus, the flood waters can completely inundate the electrical components in the small buildings/enclosures. Many of the areas affected haven't been flooded since 1937!
