When we left for home on Sunday, the young osprey still had not stood up much. They will test flap their wings for 2 or 3 days before they actually fly. I was hoping to get to see it flapping this on the nest when we came back today but alas it had flown. We saw it on a power pole so knew it was still around. My best guess is that it left the nest within the past 2 days...possibly just today. But it did not disappoint! ๐๐When I drove back to find the parents and junior, the fledgling was sitting on a fence post just off the road allowance. Lucky me.

Lucky you and lucky us, such a beautiful looking bird. Every year a pair of falcons make their nest on a building in Collins Street, Melbourne, there are now three eggs in the nest. There is a dedicated YouTube feed where you can observe the birds bring up their young, just google falcons on Collins.

The bokeh background really makes the osprey stand out also.

The bokeh background really makes the osprey stand out Thanks. At the angle the background was across the coulee about 100m away so it was soft.

Thanks for your kind words. Some have mentioned that background. It was pure luck where the bird was relative to the background. Backgrounds can be as important as the actual subject: lack of clutter and mergers, bokeh, contrast, complimentary colors...many things.
