You can choose to receive notifications based on various activity on the forum, such as when someone has quoted you in a topic, has tagged you in a post, likes a post you made on the forum, when someone sends you a personal message, etc. The type of notifications you receive on the forum will be based on your own profile settings.
How to setup your notifications
To setup the types of notifications that you receive click Profile on the main menu, then the Edit Profile button (top-right), and finally click the Notifications tab.
If you click the check box in the Forum column you will see notifications when you log into your account. If the value in the Email column is changed from Never to something else you will receive emails for those events; how often is determined by which frequency you select. You may select Forum or Email notifications, or both. Most of the events occur infrequently so I turn them all on and set the email frequency to Smart, but the choice is yours. You can update these settings at any time!
How to view your forum notifications
- When you have a new forum notification, you will see a number appear in a bubble just above the Profile button on the main menu. The number in the bubble indicates how many new notifications you have, and if you click directly on this bubble you'll be automatically taken to the notifications page to view the notification activity. If you do not have a new notification and would like to look back on past notifications you have received, visit your profile using the Profile button and then click on the Notifications tab.The notifications page will show you the reason for the notification, typically accompanied by which member caused the action that you were notified about. Included will be the date and time that the notification took place. Most notifications have links associated with them, allowing you to click to see what exact post was liked by another member, be brought to the post that you were quoted in, etc.The NEW symbol on the notification listings page shows which notifications are new since you last viewed them. The link in the notification text itself will take you to the appropriate location.
- If there are new personal message notifications there will be a bubble with a number above the Messages button on the main menu. The number in the bubble indicates how many new messages you have, and if you click directly on this bubble you'll be automatically taken to the new messages.
- If a thread that you have participated in has been updated, the Participated button will have the NEW symbol.
