As we get more and more submissions to the user galleries, choosing just a few for Image of the Week is getting harder. This week showcased some amazing images, with great difficulty I have narrowed it down to these four honourable mentions..... Lone sun seeker by SepianaA beautiful treatment of a simple sunflower, I love the texture and framing, definitely a wall hanger The winter watcher by SydneyThis caught my eye for the unusual processing. It certainly gives the feel of a very cool day, or is it night? Breakfast by SrmomentPat, your bird images always amaze me and this one is a stunner. Fantastic treatment of the feathers and I love how you have created such an interesting background. Is this Topaz Impressions? Sundown at Scotch Pond by AngelagSuch a serene peaceful sunset, I feel I could sit on the shore and look at this for hours and...... Image of the Week Baby at Rest by SrmomentWhat an incredible capture of this beautiful little creature, complemented by such creative processing. I can only second Drjoerogers comment that your bird images belong in a gallery

Thanks for choosing my little hummingbird Pauline! I was lucky enough to catch the parents in the spring and I think these little guys are the result of some of that spring hankey-pankey!
To answer your question, I use Perfect Effects for sharpening and a variety of Topaz filters (Impression, Glow, Restyle and Lens Effects) in no particular order to create these effects. I also use a variety of brushes to pick up colors from the birds and add them to a variety of textures. I then mask back some of the bird and background details, and add a new layer (Overlay, 50% grey...changed to Screen) and a radial gradient, foreground to transparent to add lighting. I may or may not go back into Perfect Effects - Textures - to add/refine one of the light leaks.
Congrats to the other chosen images - there was a wonderful variety this week!

All great choices, Pauline! Congratulations to Pat and also to the runners-up. Those two bird images are stunning Pat, and your description of your process shows why.
