If I sample a solid black image with a 25 pixel cursor, then stamp that on a solid white area, I don't get a solid black area with a 25 pixel diameter. What I get is darker in the center, and lighter as you move off center.
This makes the feature work poorly for me in most instances, where I want to create a copy of exactly what I sample. Is there a way to do what I want?
If I just need to watch a tutorial, please feel free to direct me to one.
Thank you.

If I'm understanding you correctly I would suggest that you need to look at the settings of your clone tool. First use a hard edge brush and make sure the opacity is 100%. See image below...

I selected the Clone Stamp Tool (S), then, on the black layer positioned the cursor where I wanted to sample, pressed the Alt-key and clicked. Now that I have set up the sample, on the white layer I positioned the cursor where I wanted the sample to appear and clicked several times. As you can see, the circles are solid black. NOTE: I had to uncheck the Sample All Layers box to make it work.
Let me know if that solves your problem.

Use a Hard Brush/100% Opacity; the problem will disappear.

Sepiana, your image demonstrates the problem perfectly. Plus, something I didn't even get into. With the soft brush, the image actually extends beyond the size of the sample. That was sometimes the worst problem! Okay, the answer seems easy and simple... I just need help finding the menu with the Hard Brush option. Thanks!

Sepiana, got it. Works great! I was just seeing graphics of the brushes and needed to select Text Only. One last question, but no promises about that! If I select Hard Round 5 pixels, then want to switch to 13 pixels, do I get the same result just sticking with Hard Round 5 pixels and increasing the size with the little size slider? Or is there an advantage to selecting the larger brush? Thanks so much, Peter

What I usually do is to a select a Brush size which I think will be appropriate for my cloning work. Then, if needed, I will adjust the Size slider accordingly.

Or is there an advantage to selecting the larger brush? The answer is 'yes' peterinwa , you get the exact same brush. Pick any of the hard round brushes, for example, then use the slider to make the brush the precise size you want. Also, if you click the Size slider label, the size will become an input box, allowing you to type in the size. Additionally, you can use the square-bracket keys ('[' and ']') to decrease or increase the brush size in increments of 5 px. You said you have started using the Text Only setting. I find the Stroke Thumbnail setting contains more helpful information. You can always see the text description by hovering the mouse cursor over each brush in the drop-down list.
