I just found this today; Free RAW Editor ART
Downloads Page
I have downloaded it, but not yet installed.
Users say it has a DxO "feel" which can't be a bad thing.
It is a fork off RawTherapee and is aimed toward more user friendliness.
I have had and used RawTherapee for several years; it is way over my head and I often give it up in frustration; however, RawTherapee has one huge advantage over any bought-and-paid-for editor = it is usually quick to accommodate new versions of cameras and supports many many cameras that no other program can or will; and, when you get a camera that your favorite RAW editor doesn't accept without paying for a new version, RAWTherapee probably already has incorporated support for it and it doesn't cost a penny.
I am hoping this new ART program will be likewise, without being so much way over my learning.
I do have DxO Photolab 2 with all the bells and whistles, and it is wonderful and quick and SIMPLE to use; however, we do have a few odd cameras that it doesn't accept files from; I don't have that problem with RawTherapee and I don't expect it with ART either.

HERE is a discussion site.
And, HERE is a page where it is my understanding you are welcome to download a set of five DNG files of the picture and try your hand at editing them; I think the ones shown are excellent; I can't see making them better.
And, if you go HERE and scroll through the posts, whenever you see a post with the [PlayRaw] prefix, there are RAW files within that you can download. I saw all manner of RAW formats, DNG, CR2, etc.
Have fun.
UPDATE: I am going to amend this; I got to poking around and even many of the threads that do not have the [PlayRaw] prefix still have downloadable RAW files.
There are some mighty impressive scenes to work with of places most of us will never see.
