For the last month, the Lake has been receding. Due to a flaw in design, when water levels rise, the water goes behind the pond liner and causes sinkholes which create a vortex which pulls the liner into the hole - creating rips in the liner - resulting in lowering of the water level. These rips need to be repaired - which is going to be an easier task now that the water level is so low, one could probably walk across the lake. To get equipment to the site, they have built a temporary road around the lake. They often drive the construction equipment backwards to the site - resulting in that familiar ding, ding, ding anyone who has been near a construction site knows all about. The trucks are huge, the noise is great - the mess is, well, a big mess. The repair has been more elusive this time around. They have been working on the problem for months, however, the dramatic lowering of the water level is more recent. The White Pelicans have come back from their summering up north. They seem to be enjoying being able to 'walk on water' since the numbers are greater than in recent years. At times there are 3 dozen pelicans in our backyard. I'm guessing because the fish no longer have a fighting change of escaping.
